Ed’s Trip to Greece – May 6
Today was a very casual day starting off with a walk down (way down) to Armeni which is a steep and long walk down to a small port with 1 restaurant and a couple of docks and that’s about it!
But it was a hot sunny day and it was well worth the hike. Lunch at the small taverna was very local and much to some of our group’s dismay I ordered the small grilled fish which was really just fried small sardines. Excellent and everyone of the group tried at least one of them…Yum! An older Greek fellow who recently retired from being a sailor entertained us with his slight of hand and rope tricks…really very personable and entertaining.
The walk back up was really harder than yesterday’s climb…much steeper. We had heard they had donkeys at the bottom of the staircase for those who couldn’t or didn’t want the hard climb up. Unfortunately, we only met the donkeys coming down the staircase when we were at least half way up. Next time, it’s a ride on the donkeys just for the experience.
The afternoon was spent walking the rest of Oia and some time to soak up the sun at our house (read: Ed had a nap) before supper at Skala Restaurant…a great place overlooking the Caldera with excellent food and reasonable prices. Less than 200 Euro for all 6 of us including a couple of bottles of wine and dessert.

Grilled sardines dad??? Really??? The dietitian says that’s breaking a lot of salt and fat rules but your daughter says where else are you going to experience a meal like that!!!!!!!
You got mom to try sardines, that’s amazing. I can imagine the face she must of made when she ate one. I am sure dad loved them!
