Kenya & Tanzania Highlights – Ed’s Africa Adventure part – XIII
October 5, 2011
The Intercontinental hotel in Jo’burg is an absolute treat after our safari days. Beautiful bed and bathroom and after a wonderful breakfast we’re off on the next part of our journey…Cape Town. We are really impressed with the Johannesburg airport which is very modern and with lots of restaurants and stores – quite a difference from Nairobi.
Upon arrival in Cape Town we are transferred to another nice hotel – Victoria and Alfred. The hotel is beautifully located in the harbour right on the water. After a lovely lunch on the waterfront, it’s off we go on a hike up Table Mountain. We arrive there with our guide at about 2:30 and start our rather steep ascent up the mountain. About a third of the way up, our guide is concerned that it may be tight time wise to catch the last tram down and if we do miss it, it’s a long hike down in the dark. Instead we opt to take another trail to the cable car station and ride the tram up and down.
The trail is not difficult and we get spectacular views of Cape Town both on the trail and when we get to the top. Table Mountain is a very popular spot but worth the crowds at the top.
Back to the hotel and off for supper before retiring in our lovely room…nice to be back in civilization!
