Italy Adventure – May 16

Today is Diane’s Birthday!  We started the day with a toast of Prosecco.  Actually, Don made us Bellini’s – a new recipe he called Dianini’s which was a combination of the sparkling wine, pear juice and a drop of orange juice.  A good way to begin Diane’s celebration.

We decided to go to Revello today and so we drove the Amalfi Coast …again.  It was not as busy today but the road between Amalfi and Revello was just as windy and quite a drive.  I think we should get T-shirts that say, “I drove the Amalfi Coast and survived!”  We stopped at a roadstop and bought some local limoncello and oranges.  Another stop was at Praiano down by the sea.  It was a surprising and delightful stop where we could walk along the sea wall.

There is an old tower you can see from the beach and we decided to hike up to it.  After a few stairs and a taxing walk, the tower turns out to be a pottery studio…Karen was in heaven.  We spent quite a bit of time there and the sculptor/potter (Paolo Sandulli) was both entertaining and accommodating.  It is surprising how often we find these little gems.

By the time we got to Revello, it was lunch time so we searched around for a restuarant with a view and landed on a great restuarant with excellent food and the view we were looking for.

Revello is well known for the Gardens at Villa Rufolo, so after lunch we did the Tour of the Villa (constructed in the 13th century).  The Villa itself is quite well preserved and interesting and the garden was certainly beautiful.  We timed it right because there was a photography exhibit at the same time…very interesting.

A long drive home and we decided to find the right spot for supper.  Down a small, narrow road and we found the marina right by our town.  A restaurant with a view and great seafood and finally a piece of birthday cake to finish a great day.
