Italy Adventures – May 14

We spent the day in Sorrento today.   Found a pretty great parking spot near the centro square and walked in.  Getting the hang of driving and spotting parking spots in this part of Italy.  Driving is kind like a ballet with movements and a flow that is so unlike the stop and start driving styles in Canada…yes, there are rules but you adapt and change to the traffic patterns where lanes and signs are only a guide and where scooters and motorcycles have their own set of rules.   I must admit for the racing car driver wannabes, this is somewhat refreshing…wishing again I was on a motorcycle although Karen would not.

Sorrento’s old town is full of sidewalk restaurants and shops and quite enjoyable walking.  Yes, Karen did manage to buy a few things and we also bought some supplies to have a homemade pasta dish at our house tonight.  Like old, retirees, we took a tour bus around Sorrento that was a “train locomotive pulling a train car”.  See the picture below.

I don’t think I am old enough for this sort of thing and probably would not recommend it even for the 6 Euro per person it cost us.  We had earphones and listened to a narrative as we went along.  While we learned quite a bit about what we were seeing, I would rather walk more of the town that join the geriatric crowd.

After a very nice time in Sorrento, we went back to the house for some quiet time of reading or siesta ( a very appreciated and generally accepted practice…the Italians are so civilized!)  Then a home cooked meal of a variety of pastas, Italian sausage, vegetables and tomato base with a couple of bottles of local wine followed with some limoncello which we bought in Sorrento…we feel so Italian!!

  1. You guys aren’t going to want to come home! It snowed the past 2 days and actually stayed on the ground. People were up brushing and scraping off their cars this morning before work. It sucks.
