A full day of archeological wonders today as we spent almost the entire day at Pompeii.  We started by taking the train from Sorrento to Pompeii.  We figured it would be the quickest and easiest way to maximize our time at the ruins.  It only cost 3.80 Euro per person for the round trip and lessened our driving so away we went.

Quick and easy and we were at Pompeii.  For anyone that doesn’t know, in 79AD Mount Vesuvius exploded and buried the entire city of Pompeii with ash effectively killing off all it’s inhabitants.  What we saw today was the result of many, many years of hard work and effort to afford us the opportunity to try to discover what life was like back then.

It is truly amazing how well preserved the city is including many of the original wall paintings.  We spent over 5 hours there but with the help of the audio guide we got a tremendous amount of information.  The cost to visit Pompeii is pretty reasonable at 11 Euro each and the audio guide was another 5 Euro each.  Our visit to Pompeii has been a highlight of our time in Italy and would highly recommend taking the time to explore this historical wonder.

  1. What was the train ride like??

    • The train was efficient and OK although it seemed to be quite old. We are taking the train from Naples to Venice on Monday and can tell you more then.

  2. Great. Thanks!!!
