Ed’s Trip to Greece – May 9

A very lazy day today in Oia!  Getting up not too early, we lazed back on our deck and read for a while after breakfast.  We have discovered their yogurt is very, very thick and when mixed with honey, it is an amazing breakfast/dessert.  In fact we have had it in restaurants and we bought it with honey already added.  A new found favourite.

We basically strolled the main street of Oia today looking for some souvenirs and did a little shopping.  We ended up at Lotza Restaurant for lunch only to find Don and Diane had beat us there so we joined them for a nice lunch of Fava bean dip and a Feta cheese dish wrapped in Phyllo dough and fried with sesame seeds.  The restaurants on Oia are fantastic with these great decks and beautiful views of the caldera.  Truly this is a magical place.

Very little transpired in the afternoon with a heavy emphasis on reading and relaxation and a mandatory siesta.  The views from our house are intoxicating and we are finding ourselves just staring at the view for long periods of time as the boats go by and the occasional cruise ship slipping through the glass-like waters.

As there are so many great restaurants in Oia, we found yet another great place that only opened today for the season.  We often like to just order appetizers and share plates and that is what we did again tonight.  The Kladakis restaurant had some wonderful dishes including the best grilled octopus yet and a fired cheese balls with almonds and honey.  And of course…it had a great view.  I don’t know that I will be able to eat indoors for the rest of the summer as every meal we have had has been outdoors.

During supper we watched the full moon rise over Fira…WOW!  As we got back to the house, we sat on our balcony and watched fireworks over the cliffs of Fira across the bay from us.  I’m sure it was a signal that we will have to come back.
