Ed’s Trip to Greece – May 6
Today was another bright sunny day in Oia and we decided to hike down to another little port town called Armeni. Really nothing down there but a small tavern. The hike down was very steep but we had the greatest little lunch that was extremely inexpensive and actually very good. I grossed most of the group out by ordering grilled small fish which was essentially deep fried sardines. Actually they were very good. One of the Taverna staff was an older sailor who has now retired. Really an entertaining guy who had quite a few slight of hand and rope tricks. It’s worth it just to trek down to the water and have a Mythos beer at the Taverna!
The good news is that if you don’t think you can make the climb back up to the top, they have donkeys that you can hire to take you back up. The bad news? There weren’t any there and they were only bringing them down when we were about half the way back. It would be a fun experience whether you could walk back up or not!
We spent a few hours back at our house enjoying the sun and kicking back a bit (read: Ed had a nap…that jetlag can sneak right up on you). Feeling refreshed, we met the rest of the group for supper at Skala restaurant very close to where we are staying. Food was excellent and reasonably priced – about 65Euro for both of us including wine and dessert. Then off with our friends to enjoy a couple of nightcaps and some stories…
